  • This is a-two week tour tailored for those who want to experience all in one as a mix of hiking, climbing, horse riding and culture, nomadic lifestyle.
  • Rock paitings found within the Tsenkheiin Agui/Tsenkher Cave in Khovd province shows that human being used to live in the territory of Mongolia 40 thousand years ago
  • Eagle Hunters in Mongolia are the decendants of Kazakh tribes fled to Chinese territory during the in the 19th century when the advance of Russian Empire troops pushed Kazakhs to neihgboring counties.
  • Western Mongolia's border lines separated by Russia and China and guarded by the snow capped peaks of the Altai Tavan Bogd mountain range, highest in the country. Tavan Bogd means “The Holy Five", referring to the five highest peaks, of which Khuiten Uul is the highest in Mongolia, 4374 meters above sea level. 

 

Detailed itinerary

Day - 1

Day 1, Fly to Khovd- drive to Eagle Hunter's family on the way to Ulgii (driving distance 150km),Eagle Hunte's family

Your driver, English speaking guide and cook will meet you at the Khovd airport. Khovd is the center of Western Mongolian provinces. Almost 95% of its population are Mongols. Distance between Khovd and Ulgii is 210km. You will visit Kazakh Eagle Hunter's family on the way from Khovd and overnight with the family. Learn about how they train their Eagles for hunting and enjoy the lifestyle of nomad Eagle Hunters. B,L,D

Day - 2

Day 2,Drive to Ulgii (driving distance 60km),Ger Camp

After lunch we will head to Ulgii. Spend the rest of the day in Ulgii. Sightseeing, visit museum, local bazaar, etc. Overnight in West Mongolia Ger Camp. B,L,D​

Day - 3

Day 3,Drive to Tavan Bogd Base Camp (Driving distance 210km),Tent

It takes 7-8hrs to get to Tavan Bogd Base Camp. WM LLC will get a permission for its cars to drive till the base camp through North Gate or Oigor. In that case the car will drop you with the guide and cook right at the Tavan Bogd BC. B,L,D

Day - 4

Day 4,Hiking around and on the glacier,Tent

Spend the day hiking along and on the Potanin glacier. Potanina glacier – the biggest of the twenty glaciers in Mongolian Altai. Tavanbogd means “The Holy Five", referring to the five highest peaks, of which Khuiten Uul is the highest in Mongolia, 4374 meters above sea level. Quite a considerable height at this altitude. It is a stunning setting with the awe-inspiring massif of high snow-capped peaks. B,L,D

Day - 5

Day 5,Climb to Malchin,Tent

Do a-non-technical climb to Malchin. It takes 5-6 hours to climb up and come down. B,L,D

Day - 6

Day 6,Hike to south gate and drive to Khoton Lake (Hiking distance 15km, driving distance 150km),Tent

Hiking down to South Gate at the White Valley which is 15 km from the base camp. Your belongings, tents, food and kitchen utensils will be loaded onto a camel and a horseman will help us till we get to South Gate where our car will be waiting for us. Visit a local Tuvan Family for some tea before we head to Khoton Lake. Then drive down to Shiveet Khairkhan(Sacred Mountain of Tuvan family) where you see the biggest petroglyphs/rock painting in that area and man stones from Turkic period and burial mounds, deer stones. Here we will now be able to view one of the biggest petrolgyphs (approx 3000BC-5000 BC). There are almost 1000 paintings counted by archeological studies around Tavan Bogd and Baga Oigor’s territory and they were registered by UNESCO as a world heritage in 1994. we continue trekking along the north side of Shiveet Khairkhan and enter the valley called White Valley. It is called White Valley because of the color of the river water flowing from the glaciers. Our camping spot is south gate to the Tavan Bogd strictly protected area. B,L,D

Day - 7

Day 7,Khoton Lake,Tent

Day hike along Khoton Lake, visit local families. The lake is 22 km in length and 4 km in width. This is a fresh water lake and its deepest point is 58m. It is surrounded by trees on the Mountains on the right side where out trekking trail is. Visit one or two herder families along the lake. B,L,D

Day - 8

Day 8,Khoton Lake -Waterfall,Tent

Day hike along Khoton Lake, visit local families. The lake is 22 km in length and 4 km in width. This is a fresh water lake and its deepest point is 58m. It is surrounded by trees on the Mountains on the right side where out trekking trail is. Visit one or two herder families along the lake. B,L,D

Day - 9

Day 9,Khar Chuluut-visit Kazakh nomad family

Horse riding along Khar Chuluut River. Overnight at Kazakh nomad family. B,L,D

Day - 10

Day 10,Khar Khad Valley,Visit Tuvan nomad Family

Drive to Khar Khad Valley which is on the way back to Ulgii. Enjoy the lifestyle of Tuvan nomads who are now at their autumn place.Tuvans spea. B,L,D

Day - 11

Day 11,Drive to Ulgii,Ger Camp

Arrive in Ulgii for dinner. B,L,D

Day - 12

Day 12,Fly to UB-Spend the rest of the day in UB,Hostel

Spend the rest of the day in UB. /sightseeing around UB/. B

Day - 13

Day 13,Terelj National Park, Mongol nomad family

Leave for Terelj National Park after breakfast. Spend the rest of the day around Terelj National Park. 2 hours horse riding, hiking, sightseeing. Overnight at Mongol nomad family. B,L,D

Day - 14

Day 14,Drive back to UB, International departure

Leave for UB after breakfast. Have lunch in UB prior to your international departure. B

Price includes

  • Roundtrip domestic flights. 
  • A local guide who speaks English, Kazakh and Mongolian and a cook will accompany you at all times. In addition, the services of the local herdsmen will be hired along with their animals. All of our stuff will be loaded on a camel or a horse depending on size.

Important

  • Although the Mongolian summers are hot and dry with occasional rain, the temperature can fluctuate as much 20 degrees centigrade between day and night. So be prepared for all weather conditions.
  •  Binoculars, sunscreen, a hat, gloves, long underwear for travel in the high mountains, comfortable footwear, lip balm, sanitary hand wipes, sunglasses, prescription medications (if needed), rain gear, flashlight. Sleeping bag and other personal belongings at your preference. 

Transport

Western Mongolian families frequently move from one pasture to the other using camels. The services of some herdsmen will be hired by the expedition, and they will provide us with their animals.

Staff

A local guide who speaks English and Kazakh, Mongolian will accompany the group at all times. A cook will follow, with an assistant. In addition, the services of the local herdsmen will be hired along with their animals. The horsemen follow a traditional lifestyle in the areas where we will be riding.

Meals

Our cook will prepare the meals. We pride ourselves in having cooks adapt to both western and Mongolian cooking on our trips. There are always vegetables available, and we have no problem accommodating vegetarians on our trips. For breakfast we can buy fresh yogurt from the herdsmen in the local area sometimes.
